The public symbol of being a Devotee is wearing a gold ring with a red garnet stone on the little finger of the left hand. This is presented in Chapter 1 here.
The private symbol that a man is a Devotional Knight is his keeping his pubic hair clean-shaven.
Whenever a Princess sees her Knight naked there is a visual reminder that he is her Knight, and a Knight is reminded of his role whenever he shaves himself and every time he sees himself naked.

This private symbol of being a Knight is not included in the definition of Devotional Sex, hence it is optional. But, as shown below, once a Knight has fully committed to being a Knight, being clean-shaven is a very good way of showing and celebrating this. Hence I recommend that this ritual be practiced by all Knights.
For the Knight to keep himself clean-shaven he will have to shave himself every few days, and this will become a new Devotional Sex habit. This is why is being clean-shaven has been called a Devotional Sex ritual.
A Princess is free to choose to have her pubic hair natural, trimmed, or clean-shaven.
Whichever she chooses has no special significance within Devotional Sex.
The meaning of this private symbol of being a Knight is the same as the meaning of wearing a Devotee Ring.
As with all symbols, the meaning comes from the Princess and Knight attaching this meaning to his being shaved.
Of course none of this meaning applies to a man who has shaved pubic hair just because he enjoys the look.
His being shaved changes the look of his erection, and this emphasizes some important parts of his commitment to being a Knight. (More)
The look of a Knight's soft Desire and balls when he is clean-shaven is very different when he is soft.
Being so exposed means that his Princess can see every little change in his arousal. During Affirmation a Princess can do much more than just admire her Knight, she can now read his mind. (More)
Being clean-shaven makes a Knight's erection look bigger and more impressive. A Knight should always be proud of his erection.
Practicing Devotional Sex means that a Knight will be hard more often, and thus a Princess will have many opportunities to admire her Knight.

The best time to start this ritual is when a couple make a commitment to each other to practice Devotional Sex for a month or longer.
Another time to start is if a couple are interested in enjoying some Devotional activities with others.
It is best not to have a Knight shave himself if you are only going to practice Devotional Sex for a few days. (More)
The initial desire to do this ritual may come from either the Princess or her Knight.
But for his being clean-shaven to properly represent that he is a Knight, the decision to start this ritual must be made by the Princess.
If doing this ritual was first suggested by the Knight, his Princess can take control and even add further new rules. (More)
A Knight who is single can decide to keep his pubic hair clean-shaven to symbolize his commitment to practicing Devotional Sex with any future dates or during any intimate activities with a friend.
Being shaved makes the first Reveal even more memorable, and shows the new Princess that he really is a Knight. (More)
