When to start
The best time to
start this ritual is when a couple make a commitment to each other to
practice Devotional Sex for a month or longer.
The Knight first shaving himself at this time will then remind the couple not only that he is her Knight, but of his commitment to keep being her Knight.

If you are already in a Devotional Relationship, and the Knight is not already doing this ritual, the ritual can be started whenever either of you feels that it would be fun.
But as a couple's commitment to practice Devotional Sex together should be revisited at least once per year, you could wait until the next commitment, and start the ritual as a sign of renewing your commitment.
Another time to start is if a couple are interested in enjoying some Devotional activities with others.
If a couple are interested in enjoying some Devotional activities with others, having the Knight clean-shaven is a very good way of showing that the Knight really is a Knight.
Devotional Sex makes it easy to enjoy some activities with others without things going very far. As there is no better way of making a Knight look and feel like he is devoted to his Princess than to have him be naked, male nudity (and his arousal) is a very effective way of making things feel different and exciting when with others.
This may be as far as things go, or it may be a step towards going further. Either way, the Knight being shaved is a nice visual way of showing that what happens next, if anything, is totally up to his Princess to decide.
So another time to start the knight clean-shaven pubic hair ritual is just before a couple think they might enjoy some activities with others.
A Knight who is single may choose to keep himself clean-shaven to represent his commitment to being a Knight in any future dating or with any activities with a friend (see this section).
When not to start
It is best not to have a Knight shave himself if you are only going to practice Devotional Sex for a few days.
For the Knight being clean-shaven to properly represent that he is a Knight, a man should not spend any time being clean-shaven if he is not acting as a Knight.
If a couple enjoy just one season of Devotional Sex, or give Devotional Sex a go for just a week or so, this is not a good time to have the Knight shave himself. If he does so, he will still be clean-shaven after the season or week ends, and thus his being clean-shaven will no longer represent that he is a Knight.
Thus it is strongly recommended that a Knight only be shaved when he is making the commitment to remain a Knight for a month or longer.
